The Silver Bullet

An opinion in popular sports

Defeated.

Game 4: It Didn’t take long for the Sharks to run up the score on the Edmonton Oil last night, but then it didn’t take long for the Oil to show they still have the fire, and the Sharks number. .(AP Photo/John Ulan,CP)Ryan Smyth’s three goals in 2:01 early in the third period all but defeated Team Teal as they fell off and sputtered into the finish line. Evgeni Nabokov, who did misplay one in the first, looked okay in net, until the third period, when a 5-on-3 awarded to the Oilers sparked the flurry of goals. With the score 4-2, Ryan Smyth did something an Oiler hadn’t done since The Great One, scoring a natural hat trick in just over two minutes. The Sharks played an encouraging game, but had the win sucked out of them by Smyth. Oilers 6, Sharks 4.

Notes: Jonathan Cheechoo finally tallied his first, second and third goals of the season with a hat trick before the halfway point of the second period. Milan Michalek is still scoring as he notched his fourth in four games. Michalek led the NHL in scoring during the preseason.
