The Silver Bullet

An opinion in popular sports

Owning a Panther.

Game 13:  Christian Ehrhoff scored with just under forty seconds left to lift the sharks to their ninth victory of the year. AP Photo/Steve MitchellJoe Thornton also notched his second of the year as the Sharks continued their success against the Panthers.  The last game of a five-game trip began sluggishly as Team Teal came out flat in the first half of the game.  Vesa Toskala all but saved the sharks in the first period stopping 12 shots and maintaining composure during a number of Florida flurries.  He tallied his sixth win of the season in just seven starts. Just goes to show you, if you can stay in the game–by any means– a late powerplay can win it for you. Sharks 2, Panthers 1.

Notes: The Sharks have not lost against Florida in their last eight meetings stretching back to February of 1999-2000 season.  The boys is teal are leading the league in powerplay by almost four percentage points, converting 22 of 80 man-advantages.  Thronton’s early third period goal is his second in two games. It took Christian Ehrhoff 56 games to score five goals last season, this year he has four in 13 games.

Where they are now: San Jose is ranked seventh in the league and sits at 9-4, third in the pacific divison. They are currently fifth in the western conference.
